Brong Ahafo regional minister, Mr Kwaku Asomah Cheremeh has charged Teachers in the region to do their best in promoting the region in the area of education.
According to him, the government under the leadership of President Nana Akuffo Addo is committed to ensuring every Tom, Dick and Harry at every nook and cranny of the country has access to quality free education, citing government's flagship policy, free SHS policy as an example
“For the government to realize it’s educational goal, it requires the mutual and total support and commitment of every teaching and non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service to play his or her part diligently. The free Senior High School can receive and produce quality students if pupils at the basic school are given the best of training and education. We owe the people of Brong Ahafo and the country at large a duty of bringing up the future leaders who are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to face the new dynamics of the global world” the law luminary said.
He made this comments at a handing over ceremony, where 25 000 school uniforms, 15 709 boxes of white chalk, 36 480 supplementary reading books, 114 988 literature books and 60 141 exercise books were given to the Brong Ahafo Regional Education Directorate at the Sunyani Municipal Education Office.
He also entreated students who were present to put good use of the items given them to help them in their quest for higher educational heights.
Dr. Peter Attafuah , the regional education director receiving the items on behalf of the education workers, students and teachers indicated that they would put the items into good use to improve the quality of education in the region.
"With these items, for instance the uniforms will restore self dignity in the pupils who do not have uniforms and those who wear tattered ones to school suffering from discrimination and low esteem among their peers, availability of teaching and learning materials will also motivate teacher to deliver their best” Dr Attafuah noted.
He however hinted that stringent measures are laid down to combat the perineal canker examination malpractices which tarnish the image of the region over the few years in external exams.
“Upon my assumption, I toured the whole 27 districts and I sent a strong signal to all teachers in the region to desist from any acts which will tend to provide illegal assistance to candidates in the exam hall or face dismissal from the service because it stipulates that the teachers are not delivering well. We are also in talks with the parents to sensitize them on the need not to pay moneys to any school authority to help their wards cheat in examination because that is the root of corruption” he revealed.
